THE STORY SO FAR...

The Pulls are a 3-piece American punk band, originally formed in 1995 by singer/guitarist and songwriter, Steve Rodgers. The Pulls reunited in October of 2020, during covid restrictions. The band had not played together since 2007.

The Pulls' music can be described as high-energy "pop punk", best understood in the late 90's sense of the genre, when the music still leaned more in the direction of punk than of pop. Pop punk's glory days.

The lyrical themes deal more with the interpersonal, rather than the social or political.

The Pulls' sound is hallmarked by up-tempo rhythms, colorful bass lines, thumpy guitars and melodic vocal hooks. They're also known for their punked-out and dirty surf instrumentals.

All three members hail from Pennsylvania's Delaware County, a neighboring county to Philadelphia, that's affectionately (or not) known as Delco.

Singer/guitarist Steve Rodgers describes the band's early years saying, "...we were sort of musically homeless. The mid-to-late 90s in the Philly area was this weird situation where original music was rarely welcome at the bigger clubs and a lot of the smaller clubs were still these turtle-necky types of places that catered to the college radio crowd, and they just didn't know what to make of the stuff we were playing. The audience would just kind of stare at us like, 'what the fuck is this?'"

In 2007 after 12 years as a band, The Pulls primary songwriter, Steve Rodgers decided to take an indefinite hiatus from the band’s operations. Each of the members were still active in the music scene, with drummer Bob Warner and Steve Rodgers both playing as half of long-running Philly punk rock band, The Prisoners.

In 2012 The Pulls had offered an informal release of “Live at The West End”, a rare live recording featuring 14 tracks, that occurred during a fundraising event for the National MS Society, circa 2003. This recording occurred during the peak of The Pulls’ live performance schedule, and it beautifully encapsulates the energy that the band brought to the stage. The live recording was released as part of a fundraising effort for Autism Awareness.

All of the band’s recordings were independently released.

On October 1, 2020, amid the COVID 19 pandemic, the band held their first rehearsal in 13 years.

On March 12, 2021, The Pulls released their newly remastered classic album, “The Damnedest Thing“, for the 20th anniversary of its original recording.

The Pulls made their return to the stage on June 12, 2021, after 14 years of inactivity.

The band is currently writing another album.
